Description

The Invasive Species Compendium (ISC) is an encyclopaedic resource that brings together a wide range of different types of science-based information to support decision-making in invasive species management worldwide. It comprises detailed datasheets that have been written by experts, edited by an independent scientific organization, peer reviewed and enhanced with data from specialist organizations, images, maps, and a bibliographic database of abstracts and full text articles. New datasheets and data sets continue to be added, datasheets are reviewed and updated, and new scientific literature is included on a weekly basis. The ISC has been resourced by a diverse international Consortium of government departments, non-governmental organizations and private companies.

Data Records

The data in this checklist resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 1,409 records.

3 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

Taxon (core)
1409
Distribution
65499
Pathways

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Additional Metadata

CABI has been developing and providing Compendia for almost 20 years and has a wealth of experience in collating and editing information, and presenting it through innovative software to provide authoritative tools. Compendia are encyclopaedic mixed-media resources that draw together scientific information on all aspects of a subject area. They are excellent research tools – saving time for researchers, students and practitioners.

Purpose The ISC is intended for use by: Researchers / Lecturers and students / Resource and environment managers in agriculture, forestry, rangeland, urban land, rivers, lakes and coastal waters / Policy makers, agricultural research centres and Extension officers / Quarantine officers / Crop protection and animal health practitioners (both public and private sector) / Weed specialists.
